“Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God gives you rest and will give you this land.’ “ Joshua 1:13 Joshua assumed command after Moses’ death, and was commissioned to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land. He received repeated encouragement to be strong and very courageous, as he was to experience uncharted territory and unfamiliar challenges. He was to remember that God was giving them possession of the land, and it was also God who would give them rest. Rest involves peace without the presence of conflict. In a world with much turmoil, great heartache and disappoints, and different pressures that come from every side, it may be hard to consider that there can be peace of mind without conflict. The children of Israel encountered many frightening experiences and many battles, with many enemies. The very thought of experiencing rest from enemies as an inheritance, would bring peace to any anxious and weary soul. Think about the Lord’s presence in your life, His promise to never leave or forsake you, His promise to give His children peace, and His faithfulness. Whatever battles, enemies, fear, and uncertainty that you face, the Lord is the giver of rest. You may be in a trial or battle and gradually becoming weary. You can always find rest for your anxious heart and receive peace from the Lord. He will determine when the battle is over, but you can rest in the Lord right now. Ask the Lord to give you rest and peace of mind, then believe that He is who His word says that He is, which is your loving Heavenly Father who knows what is best and does what is best for you. Receive God’s rest for your weariness. Trust that He loves and cares for you, and that He is in control over all things. Believe that He is the Lord your God who gives you rest.
