“These are the journeys of the sons of Israel, by which they came out from the land of Egypt by their armies, under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.” Numbers 33:1 While Moses prepared the Israelites to enter the Promised Land without him, he reviewed the journey he had with the previous and current Israelite generations. He reminded the Israelites of the unfailing faithfulness, justice, and mercy of God, during their repeated unfaithfulness to Him. He recounted the timeframe of the journey, which was a result of their continued disobedience. As Moses spoke in great detail of the travels, wars, encampments, as well as the Israelite’s rebellion, it illustrated that Israel would experience the same discipline and judgment of the previous generation if they were to turn away from the Lord. It also illustrated that they could and would receive the Lord’s blessings and protection if they loved and obeyed the Lord. By reviewing the journey, the current Israelite generation was being warned and encouraged to not continue in or to repeat the same rebellion as the previous generation.
The review of Israel’s history demonstrated choices of life or death and blessings or curses. As you review your journey, think of how the Lord exercised justice, mercy, and faithfulness in your life. Think of the cause and effect situations in your life based upon your choices and know that your journey is preparing you to draw closer to the Lord in love and obedience to Him.
