"But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; The Lord hears when I call to Him." Psalm 4:3 As we read this verse in Psalms, we see the Psalmist is expressing his trust in God while he is in distress. He is stating what he knows to be true. In a way, you can say that he is encouraging himself in the Lord. He begins by saying “But know…” This can be seen as a statement of certainty and a reminder to those that oppose him. He is saying, “you can be sure that…” or “remember that…” He wants his enemies to remember whom they are ultimately opposing. The Psalmist goes on to say that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself. Set apart can be understood as the Lord choosing His righteous, loyal, and devoted servants, known as the godly, as His treasured possession. Because the godly are His, they can be confident that He will hear and receive their prayers.
No matter what type of distress you may be experiencing, whether it is opposing enemies or hardships, you can be sure that the Lord Himself has considered you as His chosen and treasured possession. As you continue to remain loyal and devoted to Him as His servant, remember He is also your heavenly Father and He will always hear you when you call.
