New Day, New Beginning

"The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness."  Lamentations 3:19-24

​As New Year’s Day comes and goes each year, countless individuals make New Year’s resolutions to begin the New Year in hopes of a better year than the last. Some resolutions are for self-improvement, some are related to career changes, and most are attempts to move forward from the decisions of yesteryear. Whatever the reason, the desire is for a new start and a new beginning.

In Lamentations 3:19-24, we read of the author’s tremendous heaviness and constant thoughts of the pain, suffering, despair, and anguish that he experienced. his thoughts were fixated and constantly replaying all that he experienced to the point of bitterness. The memory of what happened to him left him hopeless and downcast. As we continue to read, we see that He then begins to recall the never-ending lovingkindness , faithfulness, and compassion of the Lord that never fails and is new every morning. As he then began to think on these things, he had renewed hope.

With the end of the year drawing closer, you may be setting goals, creating resolutions, and making plans for 2022 but you may be weighed down by the past or even yesterday. While you plan, don’t allow yourself to constantly think thoughts that lead to hopelessness, bitterness, despair, regret, or even anger. As the New Year approaches, remember that the Lord’s mercy, compassion, faithfulness, forgiveness, and lovingkindness are new every single morning, not just with each New Year. Because of the faithfulness of the Lord, you can have a new start and a new beginning with each new day!
